How
do I register to take a test?
To register for a certification test, simply complete
a test application and mail or fax it to IFPS Headquarters by the
application deadline noted on the test schedule.
How do I
pay for the test?
Payment may be made by check, money order, Visa,
MasterCard, American Express or company purchase order.

What
if I just want to look over the study materials and not set a test date?
If you are not sure when you would like to take the test but would
like to receive your materials and begin studying, you may sign up for a
test and leave the date open. This way you will be pre-registered for
the test. When you choose a test date, contact IFPS Headquarters by the
application deadline noted on the test schedule and let us know you
would like to take the test on that date. Once you apply to take the
test, your application is valid for a three-year period.
Can I just buy the study materials separately and not register for
the test?
Yes, all of the study materials are available for individual
purchase.
The study guides are available
from this website.
However, if you elect to take the test in the future, you will
receive an additional copy of the materials when you pay your test fee.
No deductions can be made if the candidate has previously purchased the
study materials.
What if an employee who we have registered for testing leaves the
company?
You may not substitute another employee for the
previously registered person. The test fees are not transferable. How many questions are on the test?
The Hydraulic Specialist and Pneumatic Specialist tests each have 50 questions. The
Industrial Hydraulic Technician, Pneumatic Technician, Industrial Hydraulic Mechanic, Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic, and Pneumatic Mechanic tests all have 75 questions each.
What is the passing score?
The test candidate must correctly answer 70 percent of the test
questions in order to pass the written test. For the
Hydraulic
Specialist or the Pneumatic Specialist
test, the passing score is 35. The Industrial Hydraulic Technician, Pneumatic
Technician, Industrial Hydraulic Mechanic, Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic,
and Pneumatic Mechanic tests are have a passing score of 53.
What is the Job Performance
Test ?
All applicants for Certification for "Mechanic"
or "Technician" require the successful completion of a hands on
Job Performance Test (JPT) in addition to the specific written Test.

When can I retake the test?
You may retake the test as soon or as long after you have been notified of your results as you
would like. There is no time limit. Retake fees start at $120 for
members and $185 for non-members.
What if I have a group of employees who would like to test?
If you have a group of 10 or more employees who are interested in
taking a certification test, you may schedule a private test session at
your company or at a college or university nearby. Contact the IFPS
Certification Coordinator at
Phone1 to schedule a date. Please
allow four to six weeks lead time when making your request.
How do I know which test I want to take?
If you are unsure which test would be most appropriate for you to
take, IFPS can provide you with a Certification Placement Indicator. This
questionnaire will help you assess your job responsibilities and choose
the most applicable type of fluid power certification.
What reference materials can I take in with me to the test?
Cell
phones may not be brought into the testing room.
You may bring any hard or softbound, copyrighted fluid power
reference book. It is permissible to have notes written in your books,
either in the margins or on designated notes pages You may also
bring a non-programmable calculator. You may not bring in
any loose sheets of paper, laminated cards, spiral notebooks or
three-ring binders of notes. The study guide, answer manual, and
pre-tests issued by the Fluid Power Society may not be
used as reference materials during the test.
Can I use my HP, etc. calculator?
As long as your calculator has no word processing capability, and is
a silent, hand-held model, you may use it during the test.
How quickly will I receive my results?
You will generally receive your results within four to six weeks of
the test date. Often the results will be sent out sooner. Please keep in
mind that the Fluid Power Society holds a large number of tests around
the country each month and the number of tests held during a given week
will influence how quickly the results are processed. Our goal is to get
your test results to you as soon as possible.
Can I call and receive my results over the phone?
The IFPS staff may not relay any information regarding
a test candidate’s results over the telephone. This policy is in place
to protect all test candidates and keep their test results confidential.
Your results will be posted within four to six weeks after the test on this WEB

test results are sent to each individual’s home address. An instructor
or employer may request a report of the outcome of an individual’s or
group’s test. This information can be given if the test candidate has
given his or her permission by checking the appropriate box on the test
identification sheet.
Can I get my Score on
this WEB site?
Your results
will be posted within four to six weeks after the test on this WEB site by entering your last name and a password supplied
by you or assigned by HQ if you did not supply a password on your answer
sheet. If you need your password, e-mail the WEB master and it will be
sent to you. Unless you supplied a password on the test, the WEB Master
will not have it until he has your Test record (within four to six weeks
after the test).
Can I cancel my test date?
No. All IFPS fees must be
pre-paid and are non-refundable. You can however reschedule your test
for an additional $40 fee as long as you complete a Reschedule Form and
submit it with your payment no later than 2 weeks prior to the original
test date. Exceptions will be considered for medical emergencies
Tips on the
Pre-Tests
If you use either the online pre-tests or the printed
ones in the Study Guides, it is suggested that you time yourself. Some
people find that the best way to take a timed test is to answer the
questions you are sure of first, then go back and handle the harder or
more complex questions.
