Certification Advances Your Career

Certification of Fluid Power and Motion Control Professionals is an Industry-wide Program of Education, Training, Testing and Recognition. Certification of Fluid Power and Motion Control Engineers, Specialists, Technicians, and Mechanics is a program established by the Fluid Power Certification Board and administered by IFPS.

Register to take a Certification Test.

Fluid power certification consists of an optional review sessions, followed by a three-hour written test and recognition upon successful completion.  For Mechanic and Technician Certification, an additional three-hour job performance test is also required.  All certifications are valid for five years, at which time recertification will be required. The Fluid Power Certification Board currently offers the following Certification Tests:
 

  • MM - Master Mechanic (CFPMM)
    {Requires IHM, MHM and PM Certifications}
     

  • IHM - Industrial Hydraulic Mechanic (CFPIHM)
    {Requires 3-hour written and 3-hour job performance test}
     

  • MHM - Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic (CFPMHM)
    {Requires 3-hour written and 3-hour job performance test}
     

  • PM - Pneumatic Mechanic (CFPPM)
    {Requires 3-hour written and 3-hour job performance test}
     

  • MT - Master Technician (CFPMT)
    {Requires IHT, MHT and PT Certifications}
     

  • HT - Industrial Hydraulic Technician (CFPIHT)
    {Requires 3-hour written and 3-hour job performance test} 

  • MHT - Mobile Hydraulic Technician (CFPMHT)
    {Requires 3-hour written and 3-hour job performance test}
     

  • PT - Pneumatic Technician (CFPPT)
    {Requires 3-hour written and 3-hour job performance test}
     

  • S - Specialist (CFPS)
    {Requires HS and PS Certifications}
     

  • HS - Hydraulic Specialist (CFPHS)
    {Requires 3-hour written exam}
     

  • PS - Pneumatic Specialist (CFPPS)
    {Requires 3-hour written exam}
     

  • E - Engineer (CFPE) -- No Exam via Application Only
     

  • CC - Connector and Conductor (CFPC&C)
    The test is now available and testing has begun

Obtain the Revised Study Guide Manuals

The Certification Tests and all IFPS Study materials are copyrighted© by The Fluid Power Society. The Study Manuals are intended to prepare candidates for the Certification Tests. Any other use of the Manual is forbidden.

We have changed the procedure for obtaining these IFPS Study Guides for the Certification Tests.

Manuals are available in the following ways:

  • Register to take a Certification Test.
    You will be sent the appropriate manual as part of the Registration Procedure.
    or

  • Use our revised secure order form to order the Manuals on CD or in paper format.
    If your Internet Service provider allows large e-mail attachments, we will offer an option for e-mail delivery.

    • Members of the Society will still be able to download the Manuals from 'Members Only'(click here) section of this WEB site at no charge.

    • Members and non-members may order a CD or paper copy using our secure ordering page at the prices specified. They will be mailed upon receipt of the secure order form (click here).

    • If your Internet Service provider allows large e-mail attachments, we will offer an option for e-mail delivery of individual Manuals.
