I wanted to send a
note out to the
group informing you
of the passing of
Mr. Barry Stodola.
Jill Stodola wanted
me to share his
passion for the
Fluid Power world
and his appreciation
for being a part of
this great industry:
Hydraulics was
Barry’s true
passion. He was very
proud of his
membership to the
IFPS and National
Fluid Power Society.
He was 49 years old
when he passed away
on 12/27/07. Barry
received 2 liver
transplants-both in
Oct 2007. They made
a difference.
However, the-last
transplant gave him
a rare disease-known
as Graft versus
Host. The organ
attacked the body.
He had UNBEATABLE
courage and always a
good sense of humor.
Employed d by Truck
and Trailer
Specialties -
Dutton, MI. He sold,
serviced, and
designed hydraulic
systems on
commercial snow plow
trucks and other
commercial
equipment. He also
taught equipment
instruction classes.
He was a Navy man.
He received full
Military honors at
his funeral. Barry
was well liked and
respected in his
field. He will be
missed greatly.
Barry was in the
Navy (1976-1980) VF1
(F14) Wolfpack
Squadron. A
hydraulic mechanic
on the V14 planes.
He was on the U.S.S.
Enterprise and U.S.S.
Ranger.
Barry leaves behind
a wife of 24 years
and 2 children.
Charitable donations
can be made in
Barry’s honor:

or

Rd.
Lansing, MI. 48911
The Patriot Guard
honors the fallen
veteran by being
present at the
funeral and
cemetery. Each guard
holds a large
American flag. I
think there were 20
Patriot Guards at
Barry's
service. Their
missions are posted
on The Patriot Guard
website.

We had a very interesting
presentation on the 24th.
Jim O’brien was kind enough to
speak with us describing his
patented hydraulic hybrid drive
train technology.
In the event that you wish to
learn more about this
technology, Jim asked me to
forward his contact information:
Hybra-Drive Systems, LLC
Ph: 517-447-4164
Fax: 517-447-3603
Email: info@hybra-drive.com
Hybra-Drive Systems, LLC (HDS)
is developing a novel Hydraulic
Hybrid Power Train (HHPT) for
the light and medium truck
markets. Like other hybrid power
train concepts, the HDS HHPT is
an energy management system that
decouples the demand for power
from the generation of power,
thereby providing the vehicle
designer the opportunity to
optimize overall vehicle
performance. In so doing, it
becomes possible to deliver a
truck that improves fuel economy
by upwards of 60% and reduces
emissions by upwards of 90%
while maintaining a platform
that costs the same, weighs the
same, and has the same cargo
capacity as existing trucks.

Detroit
Chapter 1 is a non-profit organization established in 1959 and
celebrating its 46th year. A group of local hydraulic companies, with
first officers being from GMI saw the need to promote and educate people
from other companies in the importance of hydraulics as it related to
the industrial market. Through the years of the Chapter’s work, we have
evolved from just hydraulics to fluid power and motion control. The
purpose of our Chapter to further the technology pertaining to fluid
power and motion control, and to advance the professionalism of those
working in the field of fluid power and motion control.
Originally our
Chapter just covered the greater metro area of Detroit; however, over
the years it has expanded to include parts of Ohio and Canada with 235
current members. The Chapter’s Board holds monthly meetings as well as
monthly Chapter membership meetings. These monthly meetings are held at
various Corporations or education centers that support fluid power and
motion control. The purpose of these meetings is to provide the audience
with information on new technology, trouble shooting, maintenance
techniques, and provide a forum to discuss common industry issues.
Advertising from local corporations involved with fluid power and motion
control provides sponsorship of our monthly newsletter to our
membership.
Detroit
Chapter One also sponsors the pursuit of education in this industry by
promoting fluid power education by offering student scholarships,
materials, and fluid power components to local High Schools and
Colleges. One of more energized meetings is held at Seaholm High School.
The young adults involved with fluid power get an opportunity to explain
and demonstrate their motion base designs to the Chapter. It is great to
see their enthusiasm and we want to continue to support their efforts by
offering student scholarships.
In order to
support our non-profit activity, Detroit Chapter has held a Motor City
Fluid Power and Controls Expo every two to three years. This is a
regional event for our Chapter, and we draw exhibitors from up to a
500-mile radius of Detroit. This exposition has a history of serving the
fluid power technical community of the Motor City by exhibiting the
latest products, services and system technology in our Industry. Some
key features of previous shows were:
-
Unique packaging of pneumatic products.
-
Can hydraulic pumps be serviced in some
unique way?
-
No leak hydraulics can be achieved
-
What the latest system controls are able
to do in one small package
-
Discovering who’s who in this rapid
changing scene of consolidating and emerging businesses.
In addition to
promoting the newest technology in fluid power and motion controls, our
shows have promoted small and large businesses that provide these
products and services. Our target audience is all of those involved with
fluid power, maintenance, technicians, purchasing, engineering, etc.
There is something for everyone who has attended one of our shows.
