-         NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

Jim Blaylock, President

FLUID POWER SOCIETY, OKLAHOMA CHAPTER - 63

How do we have time to learn more about fluid power?

If you are in the fluid power profession or if you are a casual user of fluid power components you have more than likely had to deal with fluid power component or system failures.  Consider this:  Suppose you had information that you could have used to prevent those failures.  Would it have cost you less time if you had implemented the preventative measures before the problem became serious?

Wouldn’t it be neat to have someone around to talk to about problems that are outside your expertise?  Several years ago, I worked with a large organization that had specialists in all areas of fluid power; pumps and motors, valves, cylinders, contamination control and systems design.  With a team like that, there were few questions that did not get an answer.  In a matter of minutes, over a cup of coffee, we could pull together over 25 years of experience.  It was great experience and many problems were solved quickly by those impromptu committees.

The luxury of a team of specialists has gone away with the reductions of force by most companies and the shift of fluid power design activities to other areas.  Now there are few companies that have the ability to call upon a specialist for all the various fluid power products produced today.

However, there is one place you can go and join other professionals in the fluid power business.  That would be your local Fluid Power Society.  Join other professionals at a local chapter meeting and take advantage of the cumulative knowledge that exists in those circles.

Our mission is to promote the profession and increase the knowledge base of our members in Oklahoma.  We would like to know what your interests are so that we can plan future meetings and technical meetings.  A survey will be included in this months meeting announcement to gather that information.  Please respond and let us know what you would like to see on the agenda.

See you at the next meeting.
