Fluid Power Teasers Problem #4 Vacuum Vacuum gauge is bourdon tube gauge that measures pressure below atmospheric. Vacuum is usually stated any air pressure less than atmospheric pressure; that is typically measured in inches of Mercury (Hg). This gauge is calibrated from 0 to -30-Psi. Vacuum applications are material handling, clamping, sealing, gripper and vacuum forming. Today we are dealing with a force exerted by a cylinder with 8-in bore, 10-in stroke and rod diameter 4-inches. The cylinder has a vacuum of 22-inches of mercury on the rod end of the cylinder. The cap end of the cylinder is open to the atmosphere and the rod is partially extended. What is the force in lbs?
