On March 18th the Central Florida Chapter held its second meeting of the year. It was held in the Training Facility at the PIRTEK USA headquarters in Rockledge, Florida. It was a very well attended meeting drawing members from a wide area with
a number of new faces
from different companies.
As one of the major objectives of the Chapter is growth in 2010 this was a very encouraging start and look forward to seeing more members attending these meetings.
IFPS members who come to the meetings have the opportunity to suggest new ideas, participate in decisions as well as bring a guest who may benefit from becoming a member.
The topics covered during the meeting were
- Old or new business
- Treasurers report
- Guided tour of PIRTEK USA facility
- Metric thread identification
- Videos of recent FIRST competition.
- Grill Master Mike
During the old and new business several topics were discussed including a contest to name this newsletter (see details below) as well as attendance at IFPS Chapter meetings to qualify for the annual behind the scenes tour at facilities like Disney.
It was decided that IFPS members who wanted to go on a behind the scenes tour would need to attend at least one Chapter meeting in 2009 to qualify. It would also allow sponsoring a guest to come with you on the tour.
There was an added incentive for any company who wants to host an IFPS Chapter meeting. A link to their company website will be put onto the monthly newsletter for 12 months as well as contributing up to $50.00 for food and drinks.
Next and without doubt the most popular part of the evening was the great Bar-B-Q burgers and hot dogs prepared by Grill Master, Mike Metcalf, PIRTEK USA's very own Training Manager.
Following the guided tour there was a training session dedicated to metric thread identification lead by Mike Metcalf an IFPS Certified Connector and Conductor specialist.
Most people were aware of the more common thread forms used on equipment and Mike gave a more in depth view on identification of metric thread forms including the difference between German and French metric threads.
The final part of the meeting was a really great video presentation from Scott Gower the local IFPS Chapter President who recently attended a FIRST robotics event at UCF in Orlando. This Chapter is a sponsor of several local teams and more information about the U. S. First Robotics teams can be found by following the link at the side of this page.
