 Chapter News

The last meeting was held at Panera Bread in Lake Buena Vista on May 20th at 6.30 p.m.

Yet again it was a very well attended meeting with many members taking advantage of some of the great sandwiches provided by Panera Bread.

Most of the attendees and the Committee Members all agreed that this was one of the best and most productive meetings held so far due to the recent increase and participation of local IFPS members.

A large part of the meeting was dedicated to an update from Greg George about recent training programs were held in Central Florida as well as future programs that will be offered in the coming months.

Applied Technologies

A recent Specialist Review course held in Orlando was well attended. The course required a commitment of nine nights tutoring provided by Greg George plus study time. There will be more training offered in the near future by Greg that requires an eighteen night study course which will be open to all Central Florida Chapter Members.

For further details about the dates and the costs involved in these training programs, please contact Greg George at Gregory.K.George@disney.com

Other topics discussed included a behind the scenes tour of a ride at one of the major local theme parks and how to create awareness of the advantages of being IFPS Certified.   Also discussed was the idea of members contacting their local technical schools in regard to their curriculum about fluid power and their involvement with educational programs within this Chapter.

Advantages of Being Certified

A way to promote the advantages of becoming IFPS Certified is to hold a 20 to 30 minute Webinar in July.  This will be open to all Central Florida IFPS Members.  The webinar will cover the major advantage points of being a certified professional within the fluid power industry. This includes personal achievement, value to your job and company as well as the future promotion or employment opportunities.

The Webinar is scheduled to be held on Thursday, July 15th at 4.30 p.m.  It will be presented by Greg George, the IFPS Chapter 49 Training Committee Member and Proctor and Scott Gower, the IFPS Chapter 49 & 50 President.

A link to this Webinar will be sent out in July's newsletter. In addition a separate invitation to participate in the webinar will be emailed before the scheduled date.  Make a note in your planner to join in on this great presentation!

Name the Newsletter Competition

A big thanks to all of you for the suggestions sent in to name the newsletter. We received 28 different names and a popular vote was held at the last meeting.

The three names which made it to the final round were IFPS Connections, The Florida 49er and The Fluid Times.

In the final round the Florida 49er won with an almost unanimous vote.

Congratulations to Mike Metcalf AKA the "Grillmaster" and Chapter member who will receive a $50.00 Bass Pro Shop Gift Certificate.

Summer Recess

Each year the Chapter takes a break from meetings in summer months.  The next meeting will be held at Sun Hydraulics in Sarasota on September the 16th 2010.

This newsletter will continue through the summer with any updates on chapter news.

Have a great summer!
