Chapter News

Towards the end of last year several members of Chapter 49, lead by IFPS proctor and accredited instructor Greg George, taught a class at Oak RidgeHigh School in Orlando about the mechanics of fluid power.

This class involved students in the 11th to 12th grade. After some instruction the students were asked to calculate the force required to lift different weights using a crane designed and built by the local chapter.

After the class Scott Gower, Chapter 49 & 50 President, reviewed the afternoon's activities by saying:

"We had a great time at Oak Ridge High School teaching Fluid Power mechanics to an A.P. Physics class. The students understood the material and I can't tell you how fun the time was, you really need to experience it for yourself. Based on the positive feedback and the experience of holding this class we will be developing a manual that will allow anyone from the IFPS chapter to teach this class. We're hoping to visit one more class this school year and will continue to learn from the experience."

Upcoming Events

We have received requests from members who want to participate in the first meeting of the year, the highly anticipated tour of E-One in Ocala. This is the first time the chapter has been invited to this facility and we would all like to thank IFPS member Leroy Stephens who extended this invitation. The meeting is planned to take place at the SVO Plant 4 facility where the ARFF trucks are manufactured.

For the members who have already emailed their R.S.V.P. to attend the tour or if you are participating in the annual committee elections the meeting details are:

Arrival: at E-one by 6:30 PM, Thursday 26th January 2012.

Address: 2929 S.W. 57th Ave, Ocala, FL 34474

Once you arrive in the parking lot you will see a building in front of you with PLANT 4 written in large letters above the door. Enter through the front door and this will be the meeting point for the tour.

There are now only a few spaces left on the tour, if you want to take one of the last couple of spaces please send an email to Scott Gower at: sgower@gulfcontrols.com by Tuesday, January 17th.

* Special Note*

One of the main objectives of the local Chapter is to keep the meetings as an opportunity to network with other industry professionals and to learn about new technological updates in the motion control industry. Unfortunately in the past some attendees have seen it as an opportunity to sell their company services or products to the host. Please understand that if you do plan to attend then you will not be able to use it as a sales opportunity to meet face to face with the people from E-One.
