As the year draws to a close the chapter can look back on a great year. One of the major objectives set out by Scott Gower the chapter's president, was to increase attendance and participation at local meetings.
So far this year there has been a consistent group of attendees at the meetings, and not just the usual committee members. Around 25 people attended the last meeting that was graciously hosted by Sun Hydraulics in Sarasota. Maybe this is due to having a different venue each time, the offer of food and beverages, or increased communication. Either way the committee members would like to 'Thank You' to all of the those who participated in the meetings this year.
We are now just a few days away from our next meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2010. The meeting will be held at the 4H facility close to the Orlando International Airport.
Due to the scheduling of the FIRST team competitions, the meeting will be dedicated to presentations given by four teams from local schools who are competing for sponsorships offered by the local IFPS Chapter.
There are a number of different levels from Jr. FLL (Legos) to FIRST Competitions. Teams are comprised of many students from various schools. The majority of the students do this on their own time, in addition to the other time consuming tasks of being a student today.
There will be up to $3000.00 in sponsorships available to the four teams that attend and make presentations.
The meeting attendees will assist in examining and handing out the award sponsorships to these four great teams during next week's meeting.
Behind the Scenes at Disney
The first meeting of the New Year will be held at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The tentative date is Thursday, January 20, 2011, and includes a behind the scenes tour of the ride "Dinosaur".
Before the tour the committee will be discussing any old or new business, which includes nominations and election of committee members. In 2011 there will be a request for a local chapter member to head up an outreach program to educate students in Central Florida about the fluid power industry and the programs offered by local colleges and schools.
If you are interested in becoming a committee member or heading up this new and exciting program especially if you have children of your own, then please contact Scott Gower at email@example.com
Finally the committee members would like to wish all readers of this newsletter and their families a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
