Chapter News & Next Meeting
On Thursday, November 18th the Chapter held the last meeting of 2010 at the H4 building on Conway Road, Orlando.
The building is used by Orange County for education involving farming and soil engineering but this evening one of the classrooms was transformed into a mini theater.
Four local schools involved with the first competition were invited to make presentations to compete for over $3,000 dollars worth of sponsorship funds from the Chapter.
Each team made great presentations that involved an overview of their school, the team itself, the robots they had built in previous years. They also gave live demonstrations using their robots, as well as some dramatic, funny and original comments and skits. At the end of the evening it was a very tough decision to nominate a winner as all four teams were so closely matched.
After much discussion and deliberation the $1000.00 first prize went to Team 945 "Team Banana" from Colonial High School.
Team Banana Wins 1st Place!
In shared second place were teams 665 "Mayhem" (Manufacturing Absurd Yet Highly Engineered Machines) from Oakridge High School, 1902 "Exploding Bacon" which comprises of 12 schools from 3 local counties and 1543 "The Riddler Revolution" from Poinciana High School.
1st and 2nd Place Winners!
Each runner up received a check for $750.00 which will go towards their 2011 season.
If you are interested in learning more about the First Robotic Competition, the local schools involved and where the events will be taking place please follow the link on this newsletter marked "First".
One of the objectives for 2011 is to find a volunteer from the Chapter to head up a new project called the Outreach Program. This new program is to promote the education of fluid power and motion control at local schools and colleges. If anyone is interested in filling in this new role please contact Scott Gower at email@example.com.
Thursday, January 20th 2011 Walt Disney World
The first meeting is scheduled to be the popular behind the scenes tour held at Disney. This year it will be hosted at the Dinosaur - The Ride in Animal Kingdom. In previous years tours have included, Honey I shrunk the Audience and American Adventure in Epcot. This is a very popular venue and we expect a very large turnout.
If you would like to attend the tour it is recommended to R.S.V.P. early, as seats will be filled very quickly. To be included on the attendance list please send an e-mail confirming your attendance to Scott Gower at firstname.lastname@example.org by January 4th 2011.
The tour involves a specific time, meeting point and security clearance. A separate communication will be sent to the attendees closer to the meeting date. A driver's license number is also typically required.
Before the tour at Disney's Animal Kingdom begins a brief chapter meeting will be held to address any new or old business. This is also time for committee elections.
All committee posts are up for election / re-election which include; president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and membership liaison as well as nomination and election of the newly created outreach program position.
If you are interested in taking in active role in the Chapter, further growth and education of the fluid power and motion control industries in Central Florida please come to our next meeting in January.
The IFPS Chaper 49 & 50 Committee of Central Florida wish its chapter members and their families a very safe and happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you at our meetings next year.
