The International Fluid Power Society (IFPS) strengthens and advances professional careers in the fluid power workforce through our work in education, training, and certification. We are committed to facilitating and promoting the advancement of technology and professionalism of the fluid power & motion control industry through Awareness, Education, and Certification.

IFPS membership provides the benefit of sixty years of IFPS expertise. Your membership supports a non-profit organization dedicated to the unique interests of fluid power engineers, specialists, technicians, and mechanics throughout their careers.

IFPS certification tests provide an objective, third-party assessment of an individual’s technical skill level and are recognized industry-wide. Our certification offerings keep pace with changing fluid power and motion control technologies. MORE ABOUT CERTIFICATION.

Our Roots: The IFPS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) professional organization of individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of certifications, educational opportunities, technology evolution, and professionalism within the fluid power and motion control industry. The IFPS was started in Detroit, Michigan, in 1960 by a group of 30 professionals interested in supporting the future of the fluid power industry and the ever-changing technologies involved. Today, our membership boasts nearly 4,500.

Beginning with the first Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist Certification in 1980, the IFPS has become the recognized industry leader in fluid power and motion control certifications. Fifteen different certifications are currently offered, with two certifications in development. These certifications cover diverse job descriptions within the industry, including mechanic, technician, specialist, system designer, and engineer. The IFPS has nearly 10,000 active certification holders throughout the United States and in many countries around the world.

Our Mission: The International Fluid Power Society will globally pursue and promote the application of Fluid Power technology through certification, standardization, and education essential to professional growth.

The IFPS is governed by a volunteer BOARD OF DIRECTORS and strongly supports industry along with other industry associations, including National Fluid Power Association (NFPA), Canadian Fluid Power Association (CFPA), and The FPDA Motion & Control Network (FPDA).
